About Dougal Black Carpentry

Dougal Black has been designing, making and installing private and commercial interior carpentry since 1994. His output is entirely custom-made to order and this website shows some examples of his recent work.

Dougal started his carpentry business in Glasgow, making and installing items like fitted wardrobes, dressers and alcove cabinets, kitchens, bathrooms and mantelpieces. A move to a larger workshop enabled Dougal to undertake commercial work such as shop counters, bars and radio studio furniture. By 2000, with a growing customer base, more ambitious commissions such as panelled rooms and libraries were being received.

The business moved to the Scottish Highlands in 2004 and is now established close to the capital Inverness, near where Dougal and his wife Jane were brought up. Business is growing steadily, the workshop now regularly producing and installing custom-built kitchens, hand-painted period furniture, private studies etc., items often being made from locally-sourced or reclaimed wood.

A recent addition to the range of services offered is the new timber moulding service, enabling you to have skirtings, picture rails and other timber sections produced to match an existing pattern or new design.

Experience in sensitive alterations to interior woodwork in listed properties has led to a number of interesting contracts under the supervision of Conservation Architects and Historic Scotland.

Although the majority of business now stems from the North of Scotland, work has been carried out from Caithness to Wiltshire and Dougal is happy to consider enquiries from anywhere in the UK.
